Plenty of inspiration, innovation and useful guidance fueled the bioeconomy ideas presented at the South-East BioRural Regional Workshop/Challenge that took place recently in Thessaloniki. 13 teams from five different countries, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia and Turkey, developed their bioeconomy-based solutions on different themes of the Bioeconomy sector.
After refining their ideas during the workshop’s sessions, they were given the possibility to take them steps forward at a practical level through:
- new tools, such as the TBMC (Triple Business Model Canvas)
- a useful network of cross-fertilisation and cross-border collaborations among the participating teams.
Throughout the workshop the participants had the chance to get training on business and financial management, learn about the TRL (Technological Readiness Level) evaluation and pitching, try the utilisation of the TBMC tool, while receiving mentor guidance on challenges and opportunities linked to their solutions. The whole process equipped them with valuable knowledge and tools to put their solutions into full force and, thus, to contribute to a more sustainable future.
As a result of the pitching challenge part of the workshop, three out of the 13 bio-based solutions presented were finally awarded:
Nonstop food: Circular food production: brewer’s spent grain transformed into flour and used back into food industry
BioHide: Biodegradable, cruelty-free bioleather using a sustainable, zero-waste process rooted in kombucha fermentation.
MyBioT: Sustainable Fashion: creating compostable clothes from bio-based materials
