The North-East Workshop, conducted on October 16th, in  Pulawy, Poland, brought together 12 groundbreaking bioeconomy solutions from innovators in Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. Participants presented their business ideas to a panel of experts -Joanna Blajerska, Anna Ogar, Thanos Balafoutis, Damian Dec, Mikołaj Różycki- competing for prestigious prizes. This workshop provided a platform for knowledge exchange, mentorship, and networking, ultimately fostering a community of forward-thinking entrepreneurs dedicated to creating a more sustainable future. The Winning Innovations

1st Place: Transforming Aquaculture with Fermented Products

Mantas Brazauskas from Lithuania introduced a novel approach to aquaculture, focusing on the use of fermented products to improve fish health, growth, and feed efficiency. His idea harnesses the power of fermentation to address key challenges in aquaculture:

  • Enhanced Fish Nutrition: Beneficial bacteria and nutrients derived from fermentation improve nutrient absorption, leading to better growth rates.
  • Stronger Immunity: Fermented feed boosts fish health and resilience, reducing disease-related losses.

2nd Place: YeastTech – Brewery Spent Yeast Reimagined as Functional Food

Andrejs Bānis from Latvia introduced YeastTech, an innovative method of recycling spent brewer’s yeast into high-quality, functional food products. Using advanced extraction and purification techniques, YeastTech transforms waste into value by:

  • Harvesting Nutrients: Extracting premium protein and beta-glucans to fortify food products.
  • Reducing Waste: Repurposing byproducts of brewing minimizes environmental impact.
