Over the past months, four Regional Bioeconomy Platforms’ workshops have taken place across the EU as part of the BioRural project. These workshops, launched after an online call for bioeconomy innovators and solutions, turned into dynamic hubs of innovation and collaboration. Participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on mentoring, pitch their groundbreaking ideas, and dive into interactive discussions—tackling real rural bioeconomy challenges with creativity and determination. SouthWest Workshop | Spain

  • Protiberia: Using spent mushroom substrate for insect protein production.
  • Energy from Forests: Creating decentralized power plants that convert forest debris into energy.

NorthEast Workshop | Poland

SouthEast Workshop | Greece

Workshops’ Highlights

Across all workshops, participants gained invaluable insights through expert mentorship, networking opportunities, and business development support. Key topics included financial planning, technological readiness, and pitching strategies. A strong sense of collaboration emerged, with teams forming cross-border networking and sharing knowledge to drive their ideas forward.

The Road to Brussels


Now, the journey continues! Twelve winning teams from across Europe will showcase their solutions at the grand finale of the EU Bioeconomy Challenge, taking place in Brussels on May 12, 2025. During this exciting event, the top three innovations will be awarded, recognising the most impactful and promising solutions. This prestigious finale will provide participants with a unique opportunity to present their ideas to a distinguished panel of experts, investors, and policymakers—taking their innovations one step closer to real-world implementation.
