The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH) is the only research Centre in Northern Greece and one of the largest in the country and it was founded in 2000. It is a legal entity governed by private law with non-profit status, supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Hellenic Republic.

CERTH participates in the project with two key institutes, the Institute for Bio-Economy and Agri-Technology (iBO) and the Chemical Process & Energy Resources Institute (CPERI). iBO is dedicated to the scientific realms of agri-technology, bioeconomy, and bio-systems engineering, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach within the principles of the circular economy.  CPERI focuses on achieving scientific and technological excellence in Clean Energy, Climate, Sustainable Industry, Bioengineering/Biomedicine, Material Technology, and Simulation/Modelling. CPERI’s research activities center around innovative technologies for low-carbon energy production, storage, and capture, as well as advancements in natural resource management, pollution control, environmental protection, and health.
