BioRural partners are spreading the news around Europe!

Welcome to another update from BioRural, where we share the latest events attended by our dedicated partners who are actively promoting our project’s mission throughout Europe! We are thrilled to showcase their efforts and emphasise the impact we’re making in advancing Bioeconomy and Circular Economy. Let’s dive into the highlights of their recent engagements!

April 2023 events

In early April, Green Growth Platform, presented the ambitious mission of BioRural at a prominent event hosted by the Macedonian Chambers of Commerce in North Macedonia. The event focused on exploring the potentials of bioeconomy and facilitated engaging discussions among relevant stakeholders from the agribusiness sector, including producers, processors, distributors, retailers, and researchers. The exchange of ideas was fruitful, and we are excited to see the positive outcomes of these interactions!

In another notable event, the “Agriscience and Practice” meeting held on April 19th, our partner Green Growth Platform, had the opportunity to present BioRural. This international scientific and professional consultation served as an ideal venue to showcase original scientific and practical results in various fields of agriculture. During this meeting, BioRural had the opportunity to communicate two key concepts: the importance of circular bioeconomy and the potential benefits of the European Rural Bioeconomy Network.

May 2023 events

Our partners AVEBIOM and Centro da Biomassa para a Energia represented our project in the prestigious EXPOBIOMASA fair, an event with more than 9.000 participants, hosted by AVEBIOM from May 9th to 11th at the Valladolid Fair. This event brought together 29 inspiring initiatives, including BioRural’s sister projects: SCALE-UP, AgroFossilFree, BIOTRANSFORM, ROBIN, and MainstreamBIO. With 200 entities and €144M dedicated to the advancement of the bioeconomy, this gathering fostered synergies that contribute to decarbonizing our society. At the fair, Daniel García Galindo (AVEBIOM) presented the power of the European Rural Bioeconomy Network, emphasising the knowledge transfer between companies across Europe. He also highlighted innovative practices already in operation and shared thought-provoking ideas related to bioenergy and bioproducts.

AlgEn, another BioRural proactive partner, participated in the event “Blueware Slovenia: Accelerating Innovation Collaboration for a Sustainable Blue Economy in Slovenia” held on May 11th at the Technology Park of Ljubljana. The event aimed to foster cooperation among blue economy stakeholders and showcased innovative tech solutions and projects with a focus on Slovenia. The discussions revolved around defining necessary steps and collaborative actions to achieve a breakthrough for the Blue Economy in Slovenia.

Foodscale Hub actively participated in the European Food Biomass & Bioeconomy Summit held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 22 & 23 May. During the summit, a matchmaking space was created to connect startups, spinoffs, investors, and corporates. Elevator pitches were given by bio-agri-food-circularity domains’ startups, SMEs, and spinoffs, providing valuable insights into their innovative solutions.

Our project coordinator, the Institute for Bio-economy and Agri-technology iBO/CERTH, represented by Dimitris Michas, presented BioRural’s mission, challenges, and objectives at the COOPID Bioeconomy Conference, held on May 31st, in Brussels. Additionally, Institute for Bio-economy and Agri-technology iBO/CERTH introduced the Rural Bioeconomy Alliance, a cluster of European-funded projects aiming to accelerate and support the development of circular rural bioeconomy initiatives in the European Union.

June 2023 events

Our Portuguese partners, Centro da Biomassa para a Energia and the Universidade de Coimbra, played an active role in promoting BioRural at the BIOMEET Session titled “Biotechnological Innovation at the service of Agriculture”. This session took place on June 7th at the FNA – Feira Nacional de Agricultura in Santarém, organised by P-BIO and CAP – Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal. During this event, BioRural partners had the opportunity to network with the national biotechnology sector, gain valuable insights into the agricultural, agrifood, and forestry sectors, and engage in discussions about the innovative solutions that will transform these sectors.

Our coordinator Institute for Bio-economy and Agri-technology iBO/CERTH represented BioRural in the Forward Green exhibition, in Thessaloniki, on June 8-10! The main pillars of this exhibition are circular economy, sustainable development and green development, concepts which are in total alignment with our project. During the exhibition, our project coordinator had the opportunity to present our vision, the work that has been done so far, as well as the steps that we are planning to take next.

Our partner, Green Growth Platform, had an excellent opportunity to promote BioRural during an one-day workshop organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, University “Goce Delcev” in Stip, North Macedonia in late June. The particular workshop focused on presenting the opportunities for participation in the European Rural Bioeconomy Network, generated by our project, to a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers and local authorities. The aim was to raise awareness of the network’s mission and possibilities, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
